The site on which our three luxury canvas safari lodges stand, in a peaceful valley in the hamlet of Hadspen, Somerset, has a long and proud history as a quarry – source of the golden limestone seen in the villages and towns around the area.
The glamping site is set well away from the historic Hadspen Quarry itself, which used to be part of the Hadspen House Estate that is shown on Ordnance Survey maps for 1888-90, and is believed to have been in operation for many years before that.
Today stone is still dressed and split by hand at the quarry, which since 2001 has been owned and run by a successful partnership of two couples – David & Stephanie York with Lucy and Robert Comer.
The foursome decided that the pretty Somerset setting, so conveniently located alongside some of the local area’s main attractions, was too good not to share. They decided to diversify and create an idyllic, stylish get-away haven – and so Hadspen Glamping was born.
We’re looking forward to meeting, greeting and hosting you at Hadspen Glamping!
Company Director and yard manager of Hadspen Quarry, resourceful Robert with his great love of the land has thrown himself heart and soul into the glamping site, looking forward to sharing it with guests.
Lucy grew up in a small village close to Hadspen, and has a background in the hospitality industry. She also has a love of art and design which she’s put to good use in styling the Hadspen Glamping lodges.
David is semi-retired from the quarry business, so has more time to devote to his favourite hobbies of woodworking and raising livestock. He’s a handy man to have around on a glorious glamping site.
Steph is a real people-person – the hostess with the mostest! After years of helping to build up contacts and the excellent customer service reputation of the quarry business, she’s now turned her attention to keeping glamping guests comfortable.
We’re proud of the fact that our Glamping accommodation in Somerset is off-grid, providing all the modern conveniences and comforts you could wish for without utilising mains gas or electricity.
Our safari-style canvas lodges are lit with solar power and heated with sustainable wood fired stoves and LPG gas.
If you’re coming from London we can offer you a car-free holiday, with Castle Cary station pick ups and drop offs – and we’ve got bicycles for you to use to explore the local area.
Escape the city, relax and recharge your batteries in the lap of eco-friendly luxury
We want to make sure our guests have the most comfortable and memorable Somerset staycation possible. Our glamping accommodation has been carefully thought out to provide a winning mix of the great outdoors and an escape from city life, combined with the luxury, privacy and comfort of a hotel.
To this end we have filled our bespoke canvas safari-style lodges with all the amenities we ourselves would like to have on a glamping break – and then some.
Of great importance to us from the outset of our glamping venture was to make our lodges eco-friendly in their design and construction, and powered off-grid.
The result is a glamping retreat where you can disconnect from city life and reconnect with nature, in every sense of the word.
